What you get when you buy MOTS-c peptide, at the molecule level
MOTS-c is a peptide encoded inside mitochondrial DNA rather than in the nucleus, in a short open reading frame of the 12S rRNA gene. It is 16 amino acids long, sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR, and it was described by Lee and colleagues in Cell Metabolism in 2015 as a regulator of metabolic homeostasis acting through AMPK.
Two things follow from that description, and both matter to a buyer. Sixteen residues is short, which is why the per-milligram price sits below what a longer, modified peptide costs to make. And the evidence behind it is thin in a specific way: the 2015 work and most of what came after it is cell and rodent research. The closest thing to a human programme was CB4211, a Phase 1a/1b study of a MOTS-c analogue rather than MOTS-c itself, run by CohBar, which later wound down. There is no Phase 3, no large efficacy trial, and no approval anywhere.
What the label has to say, and what it must not
A vial of research peptide carries a small amount of information and it is all worth reading before anything else happens.
The compound name and strength, MOTS-C and 10 mg. A batch or lot number, which is the only thing tying your specific vial to a specific test result. A research-use statement, which on legitimate material reads as some version of for laboratory research use only, not for human consumption. And no dosing directions, because directions would be a human-use claim on a product with no approval to make one.
That last point is the fastest filter in this market. A vial with a suggested dose printed on it, or a listing that discusses protocols, is a seller taking a position it is not entitled to take. The absence of instructions is a sign the seller understands what it is selling.
