What arrives when you buy epithalon peptide in a 10 mg vial
Start with the molecule, because it is described wrongly almost everywhere.
Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide. Four amino acid residues, in the order Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, catalogued at PubChem CID 219042 with the formula C14H22N4O9 and a molecular weight of 390.35. FDA and PubChem spell it Epitalon; the buying market spells it Epithalon; the two spellings are one molecule and not two products. It was developed in Russia by Khavinson from a pineal extract called epithalamin, and at four residues it is a genuinely small peptide, roughly half the mass of the seven-residue compounds sold alongside it and a quarter the mass of the fifteen-residue ones.
That small mass is why the vial looks empty. A peptide of 390 daltons at a fill of under ten milligrams, freeze-dried into an open lattice, occupies a fraction of a cubic centimetre. Buyers who have handled a supplement capsule expect a visible quantity of powder and find a film instead. Nothing is missing.
The rest of the object is standard. Type 1 glass, a butyl rubber stopper, a crimped aluminium seal, and a printed label carrying the compound name, the stated quantity and the batch number. The batch number is the part worth photographing, because it is the only thread connecting the vial in your hand to any document the vendor has published.
What the label claims, and what the batch measured
Two numbers get printed near an Epithalon listing and they are routinely treated as one number. They are not related.

Purity is a ratio and net content is a mass. A vial can be 99.9 percent pure and hold five milligrams, and a vial can hold a generous eleven milligrams of something 90 percent pure. Only reading both lines tells you what you bought, which is why a listing that advertises a purity figure and stays silent about quantity is advertising the easier half.

The specification permits 10 mg with a tolerance of plus or minus 10 percent, so anything from 9 mg to 11 mg passes and 9.64 mg passes comfortably. It is still under the label. The practical consequence is small and specific: a $25.00 vial holding 9.64 mg cost $2.59 per milligram rather than $2.50, a difference of 3.6 percent.
The more interesting consequence is what it says about the document. That line could have been left off entirely and no buyer would have known the difference. Publishing a fill weight that sits slightly against your own label is not what a vendor does when the certificate is decorative. Fill weight is also a property of a batch rather than of a product, so read the certificate for the batch number on your vial rather than assuming the next one lands in the same place.
Lyophilised, and why the format is where sterility is decided
Freeze-drying is not a packaging choice. It is the reason the rest of the numbers hold.
Removing the water removes what hydrolysis and microbial growth both need. A sealed dry cake is stable for a long time at sensible temperatures, survives a courier van in August without any cold chain, and can be shipped across a country in an ordinary padded envelope without anything being compromised. That is why research peptides ship dry and why a parcel that spent two days warm is not a spoiled parcel.
The format also maps directly onto the one concern the regulator has actually stated about this compound. FDA's page on bulk substances that may present significant safety risks, content current as of 22 April 2026, says compounded drugs containing epitalon may pose risk for immunogenicity from aggregation and peptide-related impurities, and that the agency has not identified safety-related information regarding epitalon for the proposed route of administration. Aggregation is a thing peptides do in solution, under agitation, across freeze-thaw cycles and at unfavourable pH. Dry powder in a sealed vial is the state in which that happens least.
Which is also why the certificate's cleanliness results have a boundary. This batch carries an endotoxin safety screen against a limit of 0.5 EU/mL marked pass, a microbial sterility screen returning no growth, and a heavy metals panel covering arsenic, cadmium and mercury among others. All of those describe the sealed vial as it left the laboratory. The moment a stopper is pierced, the document stops describing what is in front of you, and the state of the contents becomes a function of the water introduced and the handling applied. FDA has published separate guidance to compounders about starting materials being suitable for sterile work for exactly this reason.
Storage, before anything is opened and after
Before opening, an unpunctured vial wants three things: cold, dark, and left alone. Repeated temperature cycling is worse than a single warm spell, and light is worse than either. The sealed dry state is what buys the long shelf life, so the useful instruction is simply not to break it until you intend to.
After reconstitution the object is different. It is a solution, its usable life is measured in a small number of weeks rather than years, it belongs refrigerated, and the sterility of it is now yours rather than the laboratory's. What water was used, whether the stopper was wiped, how many times it has been entered, and whether it has been shaken or repeatedly frozen all bear on it.

That is not an oversight. It follows from what the product legally is. Epitalon holds no FDA approval, and after being nominated for the 503A bulk drug substances list and placed in category 2 under the interim policies, the nomination was withdrawn, leaving it on no current category list at all. Nothing in that channel comes with an insert, because an insert is a thing an approved or compounded preparation carries.
The first ten minutes with the parcel

Read the batch number on the vial label and compare it against the certificate the vendor publishes.
