PubChem CID 16132413 returns the title Sermorelin with formula C149H246N44O42S and a molecular weight of 3357.9, and any vendor description that disagrees with those is either describing a different compound or has copied its page carelessly. Neither is a good sign.

How a certificate proves identity, and how it fails to

Most certificates in this market lead with a purity percentage, and purity is not identity. Purity says that whatever is present is overwhelmingly one substance. It does not say which substance.

Identity is established by a method that looks at the molecule itself: a mass consistent with 3357.9 g/mol, or a printed sequence that can be read and matched. On lot 38-01260229 there is a sequence, and it converts to YADAIFTNSYRKVLGQLSARKLLQDIMSR, twenty nine residues with a C-terminal amide. That is canonical GHRH(1-29), which means the vial holds the compound the label names.

The analysis behind it was run by MZ Biolabs at 2102 N Country Club Rd, Tucson, Arizona, on 7 February 2026, signed on the thirteenth by Ken Pendarvis, using HPLC-UV-MS with four peaks detected, and it reported 99.79 percent purity alongside a measured quantity of 11.31 mg against a 10 mg label.

A certificate fails the identity test in three recognisable ways. It reports purity with no mass and no sequence, so nothing is confirmed. It carries no lot number, so whatever it confirms belongs to a different vial. Or it is undated and unsigned, so no organisation has attached its name to the claim. Secretagogue, not growth hormone

This is the distinction the word peptide in the search query is usually circling, and it is worth stating flatly.

Sermorelin binds the GHRH receptor on the anterior pituitary and prompts the pituitary to release the body's own growth hormone. It does not supply growth hormone. Growth hormone is a different, far larger molecule administered directly, and the two are not substitutes for one another in any sense that matters to a buyer.

That difference is also visible in the regulatory record. Sermorelin was approved as Geref under NDA 019863 for pituitary diagnostics and NDA 020443 for therapeutic use, approved on 26 September 1997, both from EMD Serono and both now discontinued, with FDA's record carrying the determination that the product was not discontinued or withdrawn for safety or effectiveness reasons. Its approved indications were paediatric growth hormone deficiency and pituitary diagnostics, and a diagnostic application makes sense for a compound that provokes the pituitary and lets you observe what it does. That is what a secretagogue is for.

Two rows of that table are the whole argument for treating these as separate decisions. Sermorelin is absent from FDA's Category 2 list of bulk substances identified as presenting significant safety risks, in any section, active or withdrawn. Ibutamoren mesylate appears on it twice. GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 appear on it as well, and kisspeptin-10 appears under 503A.

That absence is not an oversight, and it is not a gap waiting to be filled. Why the substitution happens

Vendors and clinics group these compounds because they sit near each other in the same conversation about growth hormone, and because a buyer who cannot distinguish them is a buyer who can be sold whichever one is in stock.

The practical risk is not usually fraud. It is that a listing headed sermorelin links to a certificate for a related compound, or that a blend vial contains sermorelin plus something the certificate does not itemise. Both are resolved by the same two minute check: read the identity data, match it against 3357.9 g/mol and the twenty nine residue sequence, and confirm the lot number ties the document to your vial.

The grouping also does real damage to how people compare prices. A per-milligram figure quoted across this category treats four molecules with four different masses and four different regulatory positions as though they were grades of one product, and the cheapest number in such a comparison usually belongs to whichever compound is easiest to make rather than to the one the reader came for. The number of detected peaks is the last thing worth glancing at. On lot 38-01260229 the method was HPLC-UV-MS and four peaks were detected, alongside a 99.79 percent purity result. Peaks beyond the main one are normal in a real analysis; what matters is that the report states them rather than presenting a single idealised line.

What identity does not settle

It does not settle the evidence either. PubMed returns 332 papers mentioning sermorelin, three with it in the title, and zero for sermorelin and anti-aging. ClinicalTrials.gov registers no studies naming sermorelin at all, so any trial identifier cited for this compound was invented, most likely by conflating GHRH or tesamorelin studies with sermorelin ones.

The three title papers are a 2006 review in Clinical Interventions in Aging on adult-onset growth hormone insufficiency, a 1999 BioDrugs review on diagnosis and treatment in children with idiopathic growth hormone deficiency, and a 2021 paper in Annals of Translational Medicine on recurrent glioma. Knowing exactly which molecule you have bought is worth doing. It is not the same as knowing what it has been shown to do.
