Those numbers are the test. A certificate that reports a mass or a sequence you can match against them has told you the vial holds the compound named on the label. A certificate that reports only a purity percentage with no identity data has told you that whatever is in the vial is very pure, which is a different statement and a weaker one.

This check matters more for sermorelin than for most compounds because the shelf next to it is crowded with things that get sold as the same idea. Minutes five to ten: what the certificate is scoped to test

This is where sellers separate, and it is not about pass or fail. Almost every published certificate passes. The question is what it was asked.

A purity and quantity certificate answers two things: what proportion of the material is the intended molecule, and how much material is in the vial. It does not answer whether the powder carries bacterial endotoxin, and it does not answer whether the fill was sterile. Those are separate assays with separate names.

FDA's own stated concern for the peptides it placed in Category 2 is the "risk for immunogenicity ... due to the potential for aggregation and peptide-related impurities". That is an impurities question, and an HPLC purity figure is a partial answer to it at best. So the scope of the certificate is not a technicality. It is the difference between a document that addresses the regulator's stated worry and one that addresses the seller's marketing.

Read scope as a property of the lot, not of the brand. The same supplier can publish a purity-only certificate on one batch and a fuller panel on another, which is exactly why the check is worth running each time rather than once.

Minutes ten to fifteen: net content, and the price it rewrites

Net content is the number almost nobody publishes and almost everybody assumes. A 10 mg label is a claim about intent. A measured quantity is a claim about the vial.

By now most sellers have gone. The survivors get the boring checks: is there a named laboratory with a real address on the certificate, is there a lot number that matches your stock, is there a refund position stated before checkout rather than discovered after it, and does the listing stay inside what a research supplier is allowed to say.

That last one cuts both ways. A listing that promises outcomes has told you it does not understand its own position. A listing that carries a plain research use designation is behaving normally, and the designation is not an admission that the compound is disreputable.

Supplier or repackager, and why the gap is narrower than it sounds

The framework is usually sold as a way to tell a real supplier from a repackager, which implies the second is a fraud. Mostly it is not. A large part of this market buys bulk powder, fills vials, labels them and ships, and that is an ordinary business rather than a scam.

What changes is who can answer a question. A firm that had the material made to its own order and paid for the testing can tell you which synthesis run your vial came from. A firm that bought a drum and filled from it can tell you what the drum's certificate said, which is a real answer but a shorter one. Neither is disqualifying. Both are worth knowing before you attribute a result to a brand rather than to a batch.

The practical test is not what a seller calls itself. Six passes and two failures, and the two failures are in the category that matters most for anything sold as a powder to be put into solution. That is the honest score. It is better than most of this market publishes and it is not a clean sheet, and a page that told you only the first half of that sentence would not be worth reading.

The channel this framework does not cover

Everything above assumes a research supplier. Sermorelin is the rare compound where that is not the only option, because its regulatory history is genuinely different from the rest of the peptide market.

Geref was an approved US product: NDA 019863 for pituitary diagnostics, with submissions from May 1991, and NDA 020443 approved on 26 September 1997, both from EMD Serono. Both are discontinued now, and FDA's record carries the determination that the product was not discontinued or withdrawn for safety or effectiveness reasons. Sermorelin does not appear anywhere on FDA's Category 2 bulk substances list, in any section, while ibutamoren mesylate sits on it under both 503A and 503B.

That absence is what leaves a 503A compounding route open, and it means the vetting framework above is not the only path to a vial. The trade is time and a prescriber's involvement against speed and price, and the channel comparison sets out what each side of that trade actually asks of you.

One thing the framework cannot check for you: the literature. PubMed returns 332 papers mentioning sermorelin, three with it in the title, and zero for sermorelin and anti-aging. A supplier can pass every check on this page and still be selling into a market whose central promise the evidence does not reach.
